Learn the basics of this popular folk-art featured in so many needlework books and magazines – punchneedle embroidery. You’ll create a charming pumpkin and crow design and Diane will share lots of tips to help you master this ancient art form with just a few simple tools.

Its size makes it the perfect take-along craft and there are so many great ways to use your finished projects, from home decoration to clothing and jewelry, basket or tin lids, holiday ornaments, the list goes on and on! Design area of the project is 3” X 4” and is suitable for a 4” X 6” frame, as shown in the photo.

A wonderful feature of folk-art designs is their versatility. While the size may vary, the basic design may be used in many forms: wool applique, punchneedle, needle felting or even rug hooking.

Be sure to check out a larger version of this design done in wool applique: Pumpkin and Crow Wool Applique (15” X 20”) on Thursday, 10/19/17 from 9 – 1.

Materials Information

A materials fee of $12 is included in the class registration fee.

Instructor will provide:  Weaver’s cloth with marked design, 12 colors embroidery floss colors to complete project, black button and trim to complete the project as in the class sample photo, pattern with instructions.

Materials Provided by Student: Medium punchneedle (for 2 – 3 strands of floss) with threader (such as Cameo, CTR, Pretty Punch, Puurr-fect Punch – your needle should last forever so get the best one you can reasonably afford!), 6” – 7” locking embroidery hoop such as Morgan, Susan Bates Hoop La, or Lockin Lip (a traditional wooden hoop is not a good choice as your fabric must be drum tight for punching), small, sharp embroidery scissors (a curved tip is helpful but not required), .05 black Pigma pen, 6” or 12” ruler (my favorite is a 1” X 6” or 1” X 12” Omnigrid available at most sewing and craft shops.)

Optional:  Battery operated task lighting

If you are unable to find any of the above at a local shop, has a very extensive inventory of tools and supplies.

Homework:  None
